"The heart of Al-Andalus"

Granada has become a world famous destination due to the Alhambra palace, which was recenty voted for in the new 7 Wonders of the World competition. As with Seville though, it is home to a whole range of other monuments and places of interest that many visitors never get to see.

We are noting an interesting change in the city at the moment. With the increase in popularity of the low cost flights to Granada airport, the average length of stay in the city is increasing, which means that people have time to see some of the other side of the city, and not just the Alhambra. Of course the Alhambra is a must, but it would be a shame to leave without seeing the authentic side, avoiding the usual tourist crowds.

The Alhambra Palace represents a long period of important history in Granada, from the great past when all the old monuments that we can still see were built by the Moorish kingdom of Al-Andalus, through the modifications that some of them underwent during the Christian period, to the new restorations and latest changes in the city. At Really Discover we try to help you understand all the pride that the people from Granada feel about this great past, and how we live nowadays between the fabulous remains of history and the features of a modern city in the process of expansion. We have compiled this section so we can give you the best service and provide answers to your questions, but always with a local touch that allows you to live the past and present in the same way that a Granadino does.

Granada is a cosmopolitan city, having people from all over the world but with three notable groups, Muslims, Gypsies and Christians that are completely integrated, making this small city a great mixture of the very best of these three different cultures, nowadays reflected in the music, dance and cultural events.

The authorities of Granada have recently finished the urban infrastructure projects that aim to improve the traffic jams in the city and make it a cleaner and more accessible place, also trying to give it a modern look which in all cases respects the ancient buildings and monuments and which gives an interesting contrast to the city.  It's the same with people, you can see someone reading an Arabic newspaper next to one of the Christian churches and a Gypsy singing next to them too.

No matter when you come there is always something going on in Granada, such as the Tarasca day, a procession that everyone from Granada joins to celebrate the summer and the start of the festitivites (even shops and banks close for an hour so everyone can join!!), flamenco, lots of sports events, bullfighting…whatever you want to do it's possible in Granada!

We would like this section to be as comprehensive and useful as possible, so if there is any information that you would like to see that is not yet here, please contact us with your suggestions.
